Mail server configuration
Correct mail server configuration ensures that emails from your website and organisation reach the inbox reliably.
Causes of spam filtering
A poorly configured domain also sends order confirmations, password links and form notifications to spam. Attackers exploit weakly protected domains to send forged emails in your name.
Technology
SPF defines which servers may send email for your domain
DKIM signs emails so that recipients can verify them
DMARC governs how failed checks are handled, and delivers reports
TLS encrypts the transfer between mail servers
Since 2024, Google and Yahoo have required all three records from bulk senders.
Separate sending routes
Transactional emails such as order confirmations use a specialised delivery service, separate from newsletters and campaigns. Marketing problems therefore cannot affect them.
Approach
We review the DNS records and every service that sends email in your name: website, CRM, newsletter tool and accounting. DMARC starts in monitoring mode and is tightened once all legitimate senders are covered. Its reports then also reveal delivery problems.
