Domain management and DNS
Well-run domain management and correct DNS records keep your website and email reachable. Your organisation always owns its domains.
Why your organisation should own its domains
Your domains should belong to your organisation and be managed so that they never lapse by accident. If a domain expires or a DNS record is changed incorrectly, website and email go offline at once. In many organisations, nobody knows exactly which provider holds the domains. Some are even registered to a former agency or employee.
Ground rules for decision-makers
the organisation owns the domain, not the agency
registrar accounts are protected with two-factor authentication
important domains renew automatically
access and responsibilities are documented
For important domains, we also recommend a registrar lock. It prevents the domain from being transferred or changed without explicit approval.
Setting up DNS correctly
Alongside the website records, email needs its own: MX, SPF, DKIM and DMARC. They decide whether emails arrive or land in spam. CAA records define which authorities may issue certificates. DNSSEC protects against manipulated DNS responses.
Migrations without downtime
Before a server or provider change, we lower the TTL values so that changes take effect quickly. We then switch over, check all services and raise the values again. Website and email stay reachable throughout the migration.
Approach
The work starts with an overview of all domains, listing registrar, owner, term and DNS records. Outdated or risky records are cleaned up. If you want, we consolidate the domains with one provider and take over ongoing management.
