Real-time communication
Real-time communication shows new messages, status changes and notifications as they happen, without reloading the page. Coordination gets faster and queries drop.
Areas of use
Live chat between customers and the service team
Notifications in the web interface and as web push
Live status for orders, jobs or tickets
Collaborative work on documents or boards
Live display of available appointments
Technology
WebSockets keep a permanent connection open between browser and server. In Laravel, we use Laravel Reverb or services such as Pusher. When data flows only to the browser, server-sent events are often enough. If the connection drops, the client catches up on missed events.
Access and deletion periods
Private channels can only be reached after sign-in and a permission check. Message content is escaped before display. We store chat histories with defined deletion periods.
Approach
We first establish which information genuinely needs to be real time. This keeps the infrastructure lean. We then size the architecture for the expected number of simultaneous connections and test it under load.
